Like any fashionista shoe-a-holic, I love my shoes. My friends would call me a shoe addict as well as a handbag addict. To say I'm kind of Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and The City would be an understatement.
My New York City closet is full of Jimmy Choo's, Manolo's, Stuart Weitzman's, Pour la Victoire's, to name a few. But to my credit, I don't just buy shoes and toss them in the closet, I do actually WEAR them all. All my high heels and stiletto's and sexy designer pumps get out and about on a regular basis. And because I'm a lawyer, I'm in one of the few professions that still has to get dressed up to go to work.
When you spend a couple hundred dollars on a pair of gorgeous high heels you have to take care of them. The first thing I do after purchasing a new pair of shoes (after parading around in them in my apartment admiring how great they make my legs look), is I walk them in a bag down the street to my friendly neighborhood cobbler.
I spend roughly another $40 (it's NY people) to have them replace the heels with rubber ones - since the New York City streets are unforgiving on a gals shoes - and I ask them to put padding on the bottom of the sole, again to protect the shoe from the beating they're going to take as I sprint around town. You can also have taps put on the front part of the shoe.
This additional investment in your new high heel shoes can mean the difference between enjoying those shoes for a few years or a few decades. Whether you buy designer shoes or less expensive shoes, a little maintenance and care goes a long way to being able to enjoy them for a long time to come.
Take it from me, a cobbler is a shoe fanatic's best friend.
